During the mid 1990's, the growth in Telecommunications led to the creation of a new sector at Carclo.  For many years, Carclo was the leading supplier of coated windows for mobile phone displays and, while we have continued to expand this product range, there are now other components such as Backlights and Keypad Light-guides which are also important to the Telecommunications sector.

We recognise that Telecommunications projects require a high level of commitment and support so we have structured our team to meet the needs of these projects so that we can provide concurrent design and fast project management backup.  Our design teams have all the leading edge optical software to ensure that our products perform to their optimum ability.

Carclo have supplied coated windows to most of the leading mobile phone manufacturers.  An important consideration with this type of moulding is optical clarity and Carclo have developed extensive quality control regimes to ensure that we supply clear and distortion free optics.

Keypad Light-guide

These components rely on a technique called 'Total Internal Reflection' (TIR) to route the light from the LED's to the keys apertures.  It is commonly thought that light behaves like water however a design based on this principle will ultimately fail as light which exceeds the critical angle for TIR will 'leak out' and the design will be inefficient.  Our designers use 3D raytracing software to analyse the performance of the light-guides prior to tool manufacture and our 'in-house' polishing facilities ensure that the surface finishes are of the highest quality to maintain internal reflection and minimise light losses.

LCD Backlights

Backlights are used to illuminate LCD's from below and Carclo have developed design tools, manufacturing techniques and handling facilities to produce quality parts that function efficiently and give even illumination across the viewing area.
